A Visit to a Historical Building essay

A Visit to a Historical Building essay

The Taj at Agra is the most famous historical building in India. It is known all over the world as a dream in marble.

It was built by Shah J ah an. the famous Mughal emperor, in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It was built about three centuries ago. More than twenty thousand masons and workers built it in about twenty two years.

It is said that a sheet of pearls worth lakhs of rupees -once covered the tombs of Mumtaz and Shah Jahan. But these were looted and carried away in 1720. The gold sheets that formerly decorated the tombs were also looted.

It was a memorable experience to visit the Taj Mahal. Thousands of visitors from India and abroad come to visit this monument every year. All around the Taj there are spacious lush green lawns and gardens. Nearby, the river Yamuna flows slowly and majestically. I took a number of photographs of the Taj which always keep my memory of the monument fresh.
